God Wants to Have Fellowship with You!

In this vast world full of so many people, it can sometimes be hard to wrap our minds around the idea that the Lord not only sees us, but actually cares about us. Maybe we make it a point to spend time in our Bibles, read a daily devotional, and be intentional about praying because God’s Word tells us to.

Pray without ceasing. 1 Thessalonians 5:17 KJV 

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Philippians 4:6 NLT 

But then the doubt starts to creep in at times. Does God really hear me? Did I mess up somewhere? Do I really matter to Him that much? 

Today, I’d like to encourage you that God really does hear your prayers, and that you do matter to Him. To take it a step further, I’m going to share with you some scriptures that prove that God actually wants to talk to you and have fellowship with you. 

To begin with, we can read in Genesis 1:27 about how God created both man and woman in His own image: 

So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. NLT 

Out of all the beings He ever created, humans are the only ones God made in His very own image. Whatever the Lord does, He does it intentionally. Nothing He has made has ever been by accident. That means that the Lord intentionally made you in His image, also. 

When the Lord had created the earth and human kind, He had given Adam and Eve instructions not to eat of a certain tree.

but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.” Genesis 2:17 ESV 

Even so, they ate of it. Because of this, sin entered the world, which caused separation between them and the Lord. The Lord knew that Adam and Eve had learned about evil, which was something they hadn’t known before. He did not want them to live forever in such a state, so He prevented them from eating from the tree of life. 

Then the Lord God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of Us, to know good and evil. And now, lest he put out his hand and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever”— therefore the Lord God sent him out of the garden of Eden to till the ground from which he was taken. So He drove out the man; and He placed cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.  Genesis 3:22-24 NKJV 

Sin results in separation between us and the Lord, but 1 Corinthians 1:9 tells us that we have been called into fellowship with Jesus Christ: 

God is faithful, who has called you into fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. NIV 

That fellowship has always been the intention, and is why Jesus came to die in our place on the cross.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16 KJV 

Because Jesus paid the penalty of sin in our place, which was death and separation from the Lord, He made a way for us to still be connected with Him, even now. 

The next scripture I would like to point you toward is Genesis 4:6-7. Cain and Abel, the sons of Adam and Eve, had both brought an offering to the Lord. However, Cain’s offering had not been acceptable in the Lord’s eyes:

The LORD said to Cain, “Why are you angry, and why has your face fallen? If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door. Its desire is contrary to you, but you must rule over it.” ESV 

The thing I want to highlight here is that, even after sin had been in the world, even after Cain had done something unacceptable, the Lord still spoke directly with him, counseling him even. The Lord wants all of us to do well and to rule over sin. Even when we make mistakes, He still pursues us. 

The thing is, we can be saved and still be making choices that might hinder our fellowship with the Lord. But His Word shows us His desire to take care of whatever is getting in the way of our relationship with Him. Isaiah 1:18 in the NKJV says:

“Come now, and let us reason together,” Says the LORD, “Though your sins are like scarlet, They shall be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They shall be as wool. 

He already has the answer to the sin problem. He is reaching out and giving us an invitation to come to Him so we can set things right. He is not surprised at how sin can affect us or how we might struggle with making the right choices. He already understands how we think and how we perceive things. God knows us intimately, and He wants us to know Him, too. He saw the end from the beginning and knows everything in between. 

Declaring the end from the beginning, And from ancient times things which have not been done, Saying, ‘My plan will be established, And I will accomplish all My good pleasure’; Isaiah 46:10 NASB 

That is why Revelation 13:8 refers to Jesus as the Lamb who was slain from the foundation of the world: 

All who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. NKJV 

God knew from the beginning of time that sin was going to affect people, and He knew exactly how He was going to reconcile that. 

Romans 5:8 in the NLT says, But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 

Even though we live in this fallen world and have fallen bodies that will eventually pass away, when we are saved, we are spiritually connected with the Lord. 

The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death. 1 Corinthians 15:26 KJV 

But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit.  1 Corinthians 6:17 NIV 

Jesus promised us in John 14:15-17 that the Holy Spirit will come to us and that He will never leave us: 

“If you love me, obey my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him. But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you. NLT 

Even though we are separated from the Lord in the physical, He is with us in our spirit. That is because when we give our lives to Jesus, we are literally giving Him ownership of our spirit. When our physical bodies do finally pass away, we will be with Him for all eternity. In the meantime, we have Him with us even now. That is because the Lord was intentional about creating a way of connecting with us despite the separation. 

The enemy of our soul, the devil, would like for us to be unable to hear God’s voice, and for us to doubt God’s love for us. Reading the scriptures and engaging the Lord daily can help us to deepen our relationship with Him by helping us to understand His character better and that He really does have the desire to talk to us and have fellowship with us.
